GTMS Media Arts Class Honors Veterans Day

The GTMS Media Arts class dedicated the November 6 Today@GTMS morning announcements broadcast to Veterans Day.

The news anchor Hunter Carr began the broadcast by explaining that, “Veterans Day is a federal holiday celebrated every year on November 11th to honor and thank the brave men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. This includes all six branches of the military: the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Space Force. Veterans Day is about celebrating all living veterans. While we also remember those who have passed away, the purpose of Veterans Day is to show gratitude to the people among us who have sacrificed to protect our freedom.”

Two GTMS veterans Mrs. Ericka Spratley and Corporal George Smith were honored during the announcements broadcast.

Morning announcements broadcaster Lilly Moring first honored Mrs. Ericka Spratley by stating, “Mrs. Spratley served in the United States Air Force for 6 years, from 2003 until 2009 where she earned the rank of Senior Airman. We would like to thank you, Mrs. Spratley, for your service in the United States Air Force.” Lilly then presented Mrs. Spratley with a Veterans Day card from all of the GTMS Titans.

Lilly Moring then honored Corporal George Smith by stating, “We would like to honor Corporal Smith, who is currently a Corporal in the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Department and is our School Resource Officer. Corporal Smith served in the United States Marine Corp for 8 years, from 2012 until 2020 where he earned the rank of Corporal. We would like to thank you, Corporal Smith, for your service in the United States Marine Corp.” Lilly then presented Corporal Smith with a Veterans Day card from all of the GTMS Titans.

The Today@GTMS morning announcements broadcast encouraged all Titans to think of ways that they could thank a veteran that they know.
