Black History Month "Knowledge is a Treat" Quotes & Contests!

Knowledge is a Treat Week 1 Winners

Congratulations to our Week 1 Winners!

Black History Month "Knowledge is a Treat" Quotes & Questions

February is Black History Month and as a part of our celebration of diversity in history, we will have daily quotes from significant African Americans both from history and those who are currently making history today. There will be daily questions about these quotes for students to answer and submit to the library to enter drawings to win candy treats.

This first week of February will focus on quotes from author Jason Reynolds who is the current National Ambassador for Young People's Literature. He was chosen for this position by Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden who is both the first African American Librarian of Congress and the first woman Librarian of Congress.

The second week of February will focus on inspirational athletes. Each day of the second week will focus on quotes from one athlete. Each day students should choose one quote to respond to from that day's athlete. They should explain how they feel about the quote and what the quote means to them. The third and fourth weeks of February will focus on more inspirational quotes for students to consider.

Students are encouraged to pay close attention to the morning announcements and enter the contests by answering the daily questions and submitting their answers to the library. The drawings will be made from all of the week's entries each Friday on the morning announcements. The more questions students answer, the more chances they have for their names to be drawn to win candy treats. Answer each day's question for the most chances to win each week.
